I have arrived!… Now what?

Look at you. All the way at the top . Exactly where you wanted to be. Behind the wheel of your dream car, in your dream house, married to your dream partner, beautiful kids if you want them, a closet big enough to hold 200 pairs of shoes & a bank account with more zeros then you know what to do with in a year .

You want for nothing.

Now what do you do?

You’ve been to every place on your list, and a few places that you hadn’t heard of until last week . Paris, Milan, Madrid, Barcelona, Tokyo, Osaka, Rio, Cape Town, Sydney, Berlin, Honolulu and everywhere in between.

You’ve seen it all.

Now where do you go?

This morning an artist by the name of Drake dropped his music video for a song that he released just a few weeks ago entitled “God’s plan.” Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock or don’t listen to any top music or hip-hop at all ( and I use the term “hip hop” here very Loosely, depending on who you talk to…) You should know by now that Drake is a very well-known recording artist. And has made quite a bit of money doing what he loves to do, make music.

In this video it starts out by letting the viewer know the intended budget of the music video. It then goes on to tell the viewer that all the money was given away to people who needed it.

And that ladies and gentlemen is what you do .

You give back.

The very first job that I ever had was a florist at the Kroger just down the road from my parents house. I actually loved this job. While I work there there was an older gentleman who would always come by and buy flowers for his wife while she was shopping in the store. He would always tell me “Young lady you’re going to make it one day and when you make it, remember where you come from.” Like most teenagers I just said ok, smiled and shrugged It off.

Now that I’m older I can tell you that that is one of the biggest things I can’t wait to do . Knowing how much I have put in , how hard I’m working now to bring before me everything that I have always known would be mine . The life I’ve always known that I wanted is to live. How much would that life amount to if I made it, got it all, and didn’t use part of it to make a difference in someone else’s life? What kind of person would I be?

I know what it’s like to grow up in a neighborhood where you have to keep bars on the windows. I know I am grateful to no longer be in that area. But I am glad that I know first-hand that places like that exist in America. Because I also know that there are people in those areas doing the best that they can everyday just to make it .While others are doing their best and then some to get out of those situations.

I know what it’s like to be a young single parent who does their best to maintain and move closer to their goals in order to give more to their child. I know what it’s like to get up early and motivate yourself every single day to give your very best, to give every ounce , to move an inch closer.

I know what it’s like to come home, to lay down in your bed, and to cry a little . Fighting back thoughts that it all just might be too much.

I have been there

I am there

And I hope I never forget these feelings

Because when I make it

And I will make it

I’ll know exactly how to help others who were like me

I’ll leave you with a beautiful visual of one of my goals this evening.

It’s pretty new and was recently inspired by some of my friends.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could have one night where you connect people who have made it in their various Industries with people who are talented and gifted but struggling to break through?

I was taught growing up by a couple very close to me, the Gibbons, that there is so much value in connection. In who you know, and what they are willing to share with you.

Imagine the impact that we could have here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, or all over the world if we took it upon ourselves for one night to make it all about others. If every golden ticket was a personalized invitation based on this individual being recommended by others in their community. If the hosting of the event, and everything down to the shoes they wore, the dresses, the suits and the ties were all taken care of for them by the individual that they were meant to connect with. If for one night they felt as successful as you have made yourself, on your dime and they didn’t have to worry about a thing except to learn from the best….

what kind of impact would a night like that have on the life of someone who is struggling to see past their struggles In This Moment.

A night of genuine connection, would provide miracles in the lives of both the hosts and the guests.

I’ve had this design in my head for a very long time. I was saving it for something special . A night like that would be special for me .

To be able to look into the face of another young designer .

To know that I was once where they were .

& that if I can make it so can they.

So when you make it, don’t forget where you came from .

& give back.
